You can choose from a variety of fruits, vegetables, and wholesome ingredients to create a delicious and healthy smoothie. This article shares a recipe for a vegan Peanut Butter Raspberry Creamy Protein Smoothie. Ingredients & Substitutions For This Raspberry Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie

To create a healthy and delicious smoothie, the choice of ingredients plays a significant role. For this vegan and plant-based Peanut Butter Raspberry Creamy protein Smoothie recipe, we will be using a variety of wholesome ingredients that are packed with nutrients. Healthy smoothies are super customizable so feel free to experiment next time you make a smoothie!

Frozen Raspberries:

Firstly, the frozen raspberries give a sweet and tangy flavor while providing antioxidants, vitamin C, and dietary fiber. Fresh raspberries, mixed berry blend or even fresh or frozen strawberries work as a great substitute in this quick breakfast! Try experimenting with different berries to create new smoothie recipes. Tart raspberries will always be my personal fave in this recipe! And as an added bonus, berries help to fight free radicals and are great for the immune system.

Protein Powder:

Secondly, the vanilla pea protein powder is a great source of plant-based protein and provides all the essential amino acids necessary for muscle tissue growth and repair. The plant-based vanilla protein powder I use has 20 grams of protein per scoop. This helps me reach my protein goals for the day as well. But if you don’t like protein shakes you can remove it or add some greek yogurt or vegan greek yogurt for extra protein. (1/2 a cup is a good place to start).

Plant Milk:

To add creaminess to this raspberry peanut butter smoothie, plain unsweetened plant milk is an excellent alternative to dairy milk. It is low in calories and fat, and free of cholesterol and lactose. Feel free to use any non-dairy milk such as almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk, cashew milk or even regular milk if you consume dairy products.

Peanut Butter:

Natural peanut butter adds a rich and nutty flavor to the smoothie, along with healthy fats, protein, and fiber. Creamy peanut butter can easily be substituted for almond butter, cashew butter or even sunflower seed butter if you are allergic to nuts. Peanut butter powder can be used to reduce calories if desired.

Seeds:

For even more flavor and nutrition, optional extras like chia seeds, flax seeds, and hemp hearts or hemp seeds, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and minerals, can be added.

Sweetness:

If you prefer your smoothie sweet, you can also include pitted medjool dates or maple syrup. Dates even add a little extra dietary fibre.

Smoothie Bowl:

Add 1/2 a frozen banana to make this smoothie thicker and turn it into a smoothie bowl. Sweet bananas also add to this smoothie but will make it thicker.

Cauliflower:

Add 1/2 a cup of cauliflower rice instead if you don’t like bananas. This will give the smoothie an extra thick and creamy texture without the added sugar of a banana.

Toppings:

One of my favorite toppings is a little bit of extra creamy peanut butter. That combined with some fresh raspberries on top makes this a smoothie I could drink every single day. It’s also delicious with some slivered almonds or even granola as a topping.

Ice Cubes:

If your fruit is fresh and not frozen, try adding 2 ice cubes to make it colder and more refreshing. This is especially nice in the warmer months to help beat the summer heat!

Meal Prep Tip:

If you want to meal prep this smoothie try making frozen smoothie packs! Add all ingredients EXCEPT the plant milk into single serving ziplock baggies and store in the freezer. When you are ready to eat your smoothie add the contents of the bag, plus 1 cup of plant milk to a blender. Blend it up and enjoy!

Note* Leftover smoothie is not very good in my opinion so enjoy it straight out of the blender. Personally I don’t love cocoa powder or cacao nibs in this smoothie. But I have other smoothie recipes that taste amazing with a chocolatey flavor!

By combining these simple ingredients, we can make a delicious and nutritious Peanut Butter Raspberry Creamy protein Smoothie that is both vegan and plant-based, with all the necessary nutrients to fuel your day.
