Ingredients

  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil (olive works if you can't do sesame)
  • ½ cup soy sauce (tamari for GF)
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 3 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tsp hot chili flakes (or more to taste)

Cornstarch Slurry

  • 4 tsp cornstarch
  • 4 tsp cold water

Instructions

  • Add the oil, soy sauce, water, sugar, maple syrup, garlic, ginger and hot chili flakes to a medium saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil while stirring. Reduce to a simmer.
  • Make the cornstarch slurry by mixing together the cornstarch and cold water.
  • Add the cornstarch slurry into the pot, stir in and let simmer for at least 5 minutes until it thickens. Stir occasionally to make sure it doesn't stick.
  • Remove from heat, and let cool. Top with sesame seeds if you want a little garnish.
  • Serve on your favourite dish, and enjoy! 😁
